Knox Choir

Knox Church Choir is one of the finest church choirs in New Zealand and numbers up to forty-five voices. Members dress in traditional cassocks. The choir consists of boys, girls and adults (trebles, sopranos, altos, tenors and basses) and sings at least two anthems at each service. It sings in up to eight parts and the music varies from 13th century chants to works by contemporary New Zealand composers.

The choir has recorded for television, Radio New Zealand and the BBC. It also sings substantial choral works with orchestral accompaniment, for example

 Handel's 'Messiah' (1997) - Haydn's Mass in Time of Fear (1998) -· Fauré's 'Requiem' (1998,2002) - · Haydn's 'Nelson Mass' (1998) - · Vivaldi's 'Gloria in D' (1999) -  Mozart's 'Requiem' (1999) - Stainer's Crucifixion (2000, 2003) - Brahms's Requiem (2001) - Bach's Wach Auf (2001) - Schubert's Mass in G (2001) - Victoria's O Magnum Mysterium (2002) - Knudson's Grant Us Your Peace (2002) - Vavaldi's Gloria (2003) Stainer's Crucifixion(2003) and (2006)

The choir is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music whose motto is 'I will sing with the Spirit and with understanding also'.

The Iona Choir is a choir for girls aged 7 to 13 which sings independently and in conjunction with the Knox Church Choir.

The Choir Director has sectional rehersals, providing tuition for the trebles (boys), the Iona Choir, and the full choir.

The Knox Church Choir provides exposure for children to some of the most beautiful music in the Church's tradition, and offers the opportunity to sing with other talented musicians and to learn from them. The choir is a predominantly young and enthusiastic group who enjoy making music together.

If you or your child are interested in being involved, please contact the Choir Director for an audition.
